<p>HAZLE TWP. &#8212; Over the past couple of seasons, Brenna Babcock led Northwest into girls basketball history.</p><p>In a dominating district performance, she made a little of her own.</p><p>Babcock lit up the gym with 28 points to become the school&#8217;s all-time leading scorer Tuesday as the Rangers rolled over Lackawanna Trail 48-13 in a District 2 Class 2A quarterfinal game at Hazleton Area High School.</p><p>&#8220;It feels amazing,&#8221; said Babcock, whose new Northwest career scoring record now stands at 1,589 points. &#8220;I&#8217;m just so thankful for all my teammates to get where I am.&#8221;</p><p>That personal mark was hardly her main motivation this week, though.</p><p>&#8220;I knew it was a possibility, but that wasn&#8217;t my biggest thing coming in,&#8221; said Babcock, whose Rangers played for the district title for the first time in school history at Mohegan Sun Arena last season, made states for the first time and lost both. &#8220;The biggest factor was trying to win. I want to move forward and get back to the Arena.</p><p>&#8220;We have some unfinished business there.&#8221; </p><p>Babcock meant business from the start and so did did the 14-9 Rangers, who will face Holy Cross in a district semifinal game Friday.</p><p>A returning third-team Class 2A all-state guard, Babcock was pretty much unstoppable &#8212; scoring her 28 points in roughly 12 minutes of game action.</p><p>She opened by scoring nine of the game&#8217;s first 11 points and finished with 13 in an opening quarter that gave the Rangers a commanding 19-0 lead.</p><p>It took Babcock exactly a minute to score the first five points of the second quarter as Northwest took a 24-0 lead.</p><p>Then she headed to the bench for the rest of the quarter, taking a game-high 18 points into halftime despite sitting out the final seven minutes of the second quarter.</p><p>&#8220;Our team was a lot better than theirs,&#8221; Babcock said. &#8220;There were a lot of openings everywhere, so it was pretty easy to score.&#8221;</p><p>Kennedy Yaple scored as the Northwest lead grew to 26 points &#8212; a testament to how dominating Northwest&#8217;s defense was.</p><p>It took nearly 10 minutes for the Lions to even get on the board &#8212; on a pair of free throws by Cali Fauquier a tick under two minutes into the second period. Lackawanna Trail&#8217;s first basket of the game came on Monica Stuenzy&#8217;s layup 4:43 from halftime, cutting the Northwest lead to 28-4.</p><p>It was as close as Trail got all night.</p><p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;ve ever held a team to zero that long,&#8221; Babcock said. &#8220;That felt pretty good, to keep them to no points into the second quarter.&#8221;</p><p>With Northwest holding a 38-10 lead at intermission, the only question was when &#8212; not if Babcock would get to 28 points to set a new Rangers scoring mark.</p><p>That came less than three minutes into the second half, as Babcock rattled the rim with two regular baskets, a 3-point field goal and a three-point play.
