Hazleton man sentenced for kidnapping 2-year-old

<p>Dallas&#8217; Alex DeRome and John Toussaint won three matches each on Wednesday at Kirby Park to advance to the semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A boys singles championships.</p><p>DeRome, the seventh seed, will face Holy Cross&#8217; Logan Gregory in his semifinal match. Gregory is the third seed. Fourth-seeded Touissaint will play top-seeded Lenny Maiocco of Western Wayne. The semifinals begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit. The finals will follow.</p><p>DeRome&#8217;s biggest win of the day came in the quarterfinals when he defeated second-seeded Will Ziegler of Wyoming Seminary 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-5.</p><p>DeRome opened play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over West Scranton&#8217;s Blake Sphabmixay. He followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Holy Redeemer&#8217;s Brandon Gebenus.</p><p>Toussaint won his quarterfinal match 4-1 via injury default against Scranton Prep&#8217;s Matt Tressler. He also swept the first two rounds, defeating Valley View&#8217;s Kevin Duffy 6-1, 6-2 and MMI Prep&#8217;s Christian Bodamo 7-5, 6-0.</p><p>Maiocco knocked out three Wyoming Valley Conference entrants to make the semifinals. He defeated Berwick&#8217;s Jarret Groshek and Wyoming Area&#8217;s Nick Perry by 6-0, 6-0 scores and then topped Seminary&#8217;s Jerry Tang 6-3, 6-1.</p><p>Gregory eliminated two WVC players in the opening two rounds. He defeated MMI Prep&#8217;s Zander Spear 6-1, 6-0 and Tunkhannock&#8217;s Alex Keiser 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.</p><p>Berwick&#8217;s Luis Donayre won his opener, but fell to Ziegler in the second round 6-0, 6-0.</p><p><strong>D2/4 CLASS 3A</strong></p><p>Crestwood&#8217;s Brandon Krupa was the only WVC player to advance to the quarterfinals after the opening rounds of the District 2/4 Class 3A tournament at Kirby Park. After defeating Wyoming Valley West&#8217;s Aiden Temple 6-3, 6-1, Krupa lost 6-2, 6-1 to second-seeded Rory Harris of Abington Heights.</p><p>Pittston Area&#8217;s Peter Fox and Adam Musto, Hazleton Area&#8217;s Gavin Ashman, Crestwood Julien Lacoste and Valley West&#8217;s Brandon Richie all fell in the opening round. Musto and Richie picked up wins in the preliminary round.</p><p>The semifinals and finals will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit. Delaware Valley&#8217;s Tomas Reese, the top seed, will play fourth-seeded Amani Patel of Williamsport. Abington Heights&#8217; Rory Harris, the second-seed,will face Williamsport&#8217;s Kyle Schuler.</p><p>Schuler eliminated the third seed, Scranton&#8217;s Camus Howie, in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3.</p><style>
