Tunkhannock's heroes lead by example and inspire the best in students &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 My wife and I recently attended the 7th and 8th grade American Hero Day at
the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tunkhannock Area Middle SchoolEach student had previously written a report
about who was his American or hometown hero. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 My son, Damon, selected me as his hero and invited us to attend the
assembly. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He, along with 30 other students, read their reports about their hero. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Some were about grandparents, some fathers or mothers, some teachers and
coaches, and some about sports or military heroes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I was extremely proud of my son as he stood before the entire student body
to make his presentation to me. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It makes my wife and me feel so happy to know that our efforts to raise our
three children are working. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As I looked around the audience, I observed something else that I was
extremely proud to see: the teachers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The teachers who have been responsible for my son throughout his education
were every bit as interested in the assembly as the audience was. In fact,
they had supported the entire program in their classrooms, in the band, and
through their encouragement. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It made me think that sometimes we look too hard or too far away to find
the heroes in our lives. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For example, Mr. Mulhern and Mr. Ulias, two of the teachers who
successfully coordinated this program, are every bit as much day-to-day heroes
and examples to our students as are the big sports stars or national figures. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 They looked and acted professional and conducted a program that made my
wife and me proud to be a part of the Tunkhannock Area School District. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Just think of the effort that they and their fellow faculty members made to
make this day successful and what they taught our sons and daughters. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 They provided an opportunity for all students to think and write about who
has an influence on their life, selected some of the students to speak or
perform before a large audience, and at the same time instilled in the entire
student body the importance of family, community and professionalism. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I am happy that my son has such positive examples in the faculty and staff
at his school. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He is sure to succeed with such local heroes to exemplify. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
